Register now for KAI CONFERENCE in WHAKATĀNE, 29 & 30 June

Attendance is FREE

Ngā Āhuatanga o te Kai (an institute preserving culture through food) and NZFSSRC are convening this innovative event which runs from 3pm on Sunday, 29 June, through Monday, 30 June, at Te Mānuka Tūtahi Marae in Whakatāne.

Food, we know, is central to individual physical and mental health, as well as being the centrepiece of community cultural and social wellbeing.  Māori pride themselves on manaakitanga, and are legendary for being able to cater for hundreds, sometimes thousands, at short notice.

Unsurprisingly, the Māori agri-economy is booming, and their aspirations for future growth are limitless.

This conference will range across environmental impacts on food production and health, food safety on marae, Māori philosophies with respect to kai and kai production, and stories from the past and present to illustrate the above.

Linda Tuhiwai Smith, Distinguished Professor at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi, will convene the conference.

Registrations are now open.  This will be a gathering like no other.  Come and be part of it!
