New NZFS service to inform industry about current and emerging food safety issues

Fortnightly bulletin on food safety insights, emerging risks and food safety issues.

New Zealand Food Safety (NZFS, a business unit of the Ministry for Primary Industries) has commenced publishing a fortnightly bulletin on food safety insights, emerging risks and food safety issues. These provide summaries of current and emerging food safety issues and explain wider developments in the food industry. They are a useful source of intelligence for anyone wanting to keep abreast of current and emerging issues.

The Centre has been running its own service for members (ERIS), which focuses on providing intelligence on emerging food safety risks and supporting the food industry through research on these issues. NZFS have been supporting ERIS since its inception in 2021 through in-kind funding. ERIS project lead, Nicola King (ESR) is pleased with the bulletins since they provide an excellent source of intelligence for the ERIS team and the food industry as a whole. Nicola says “Any additional resource that is directed towards identifying and assessing food safety risks is good for all of us. The public nature of these bulletins means that the information is being shared openly and regularly, providing food companies with the opportunity to check their own systems and supply chains so New Zealand’s food remains safe.”
