The plan contains four priority Science Themes with which co-funded projects must align:
Be a trusted, independent and credible provider of food safety knowledge and research.
Develop practices, technologies and knowledge that will contribute to reduce foodborne illness.
Identify, prioritise and respond to research needs for emerging food safety risks.
Support and contribute to the food safety science and research needs, aspirations and interests of Māori businesses and communities.
Enhance Aotearoa/New Zealand’s international reputation as a leader in food safety research.
Ensure that food safety research activities in Aotearoa/New Zealand are well coordinated and in alignment with the national food safety research plan.
Enhance, build and develop national capability, collaborations and capacity to undertake high quality food safety research.
Work closely with research organisations receiving government funds that support ’stretch’ science.
