Control of Campylobacter spp. in chickens

1 May 2019

The project enabled the poultry industry to develop on-farm risk management practices that prevent contamination of broiler flocks with Campylobacter spp.

Within this project, we investigated potential pre-processing sources of Campylobacter in broiler by sampling multiple environmental and shed-based potential sources and vector. Campylobacter isolated were then correlated with strains present in the flock by comparison of whole-genome sequencing of isolates, ultimately leading to the development of farm practices that reduced risk for NZ poultry consumers and improved safety for the farm and processing workers.
