Read Nigel French’s feature on genome sequencing
Distinguished Professor Nigel French is the Centre’s chief science advisor. Under the auspices of the Centre, and at the invitation of The Conversation, he wrote a feature on the powerful applications of genome sequencing in infectious disease control, with reference to COVID-19 and Mycoplasma bovis. It was picked up by news outlet Stuff as soon as it was published, and is definitely worth a read. Nigel emphasises that the interpretation of genomic data is not as simple as people might imagine, and requires expert knowledge and ongoing research to really get the best out of it.
